Frequently Asked Questions
What devices are considered diabetes technology?
Diabetes technologies have evolved over the years. Insulin delivery methods include syringes, insulin pens, and insulin pumps [or continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII)]. Methods to monitor blood glucose levels include blood glucose meters (or glucometers) and continuous glucose monitors (CGM). The newest technologies combine a CGM and insulin pump to automate insulin delivery based on blood glucose readings. These systems may be referred to as hybrid closed-loop (HCL) systems, automated insulin delivery (AID), or artificial pancreas. The EQUAT1D study is focused on insulin pumps, CGM, and HCL systems.
Can I refer someone to this study?
Yes! Feel free to share the website site link with anyone interested in learning more about the research or might be interested in participating in the study.
Can I participate if I do not currently use diabetes technologies?
Yes, your input is valuable even if you are not using or have never used an insulin pump, CGM, or AID. We are looking for participants who have type 1 diabetes or are health care providers (endocrinologist or diabetes educator).
If you have type 1 diabetes, you can participate if you are 18 years or older and live in Ontario or Quebec.
If you are an endocrinologist or diabetes educator, you can participate if you provide care as an independent practitioner and practice in Ontario or Quebec.
